  • On May 12, 2016, we lost my little brother (Tomas Lira) to complications from pancreatic cancer... he was only 41. He was incarcerated and hospitalized in Galveston at UTMB. Considering all the red tape that comes with having someone pass away while in custody, the staff at Carnes Funeral Home handled everything very well. Stephanie listened to me and got things done as soon as possible. I never felt like they were trying to "sell" me anything. I told them what my wishes were and that's exactly what she did. They kept me informed about what was going on at all times and were prompt in returning my calls and answering my questions. Thank you sooo much Stephanie Pena, Amy Jo Maldonado and Maria....your care and compassion are greatly appreciated.

  • My father recently passed away and I wish I had called Carnes Funeral Home from the beginning. Being as I live out of state I used Heritage Cremation services in Katy Tx which was a mistake. Once my father was put into the care of Carnes it was a blessing to our family. They are compassionate, considerate, and very helpful. It was a great comfort to know that kind people were looking after my best interest from afar. I highly recommend their services. Katie, Amy, and Kimberley were all equally wonderful and efficient in their positions at Carnes.

My mother, Maureen Rosser Baker Jenkins, passed October 14, 2015 while a resident at The Medical Resort in Sugarland. Carnes was notified and retrieved her approximately 3 hours later. I completed & signed all paperwork for the cremation and death certificates on Friday, October 16th. Then the wait began. They could not cremate my mother until her attending physician signed the death certificate. Each time I inquired as to the status of receiving my mother's ashes there was one excuse after the other; the doctor could not be reached; the doctor was on vacation, etc. On Wednesday, October 28th I called the Funeral Director, Kevin Byron on his direct line for an update. No answer - left a message requesting he return my call. I never received a return call so I called the funeral home directly. I was told mother's ashes had been at Carnes in Texas City since Tuesday. I received her ashes Wednesday afternoon after 5 p.m. & brought her home. I am still waiting for the return call from Mr. Byron. Whether it is a cremation or a live service I feel all deceased & their surviving families deserve consideration & respect. There was only one person at Carnes who displayed compassion & respect and her name is Amy. I am incredibly grateful for her kindnesses. Otherwise I am completely dissatisfied & disappointed in Carnes. I would not recommend them in such a difficult time unless you want to double check their every move. It might have been different if we had a different funeral director or if we had a costly service but we did not - we followed my mother's wishes & had a simple cremation. I understand there were things beyond anyone's control but 14 days of waiting and no calls from Carnes is not the way to keep everyone informed.
